DON'T LOOK BACK
Don’t look back. That was the advice the angels gave to Lot and his family as
they led them out of the city of Sodom, just before it was destroyed by the wrath
of God.

What happened to the city after he fled was no longer Lot’s concern. It was no
longer any of his business. He couldn’t do anything about it.
“Don’t look back” was the angel’s way of saying, “Look forward. There’s nothing to gain by watching what happens behind you. Focus on your future and what is ahead of you.”
As the Bible tells us, Lot’s wife wasn’t all that good at following directions. She
couldn’t resist the temptation to look back and see what happened to the city she
just left; the city, people and things she loved. And she was turned into a pillar of
salt.
You could say her vision was cloudy. She cared about the temporal things of this
world versus the eternal things of God. Many of us are like Lot’s wife with
equally cloudy vision. Stuff matters to us more than God’s love and protection
and we have yet to find our calling.
In Jeremiah 29:11 the word says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares
the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope”. Our
future and hope are in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, not in the past before we
came to know Christ.
On this fast let’s focus on the future and the eternal things of God. Let us look to
the future and with great promise and expectation and let us leave the things of
the past in the past. As we seek Christ with perfect 2020 vision, let’s experience
the full power of the VisuaLife.
Prayer
Lord as we draw near to you during this 2020 Daniel Fast help us to look
forward and not back. Allow our faith to grow as our relationship with you
strengthens. And allow our faith to draw on your power to do mighty things in
your name. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
