Day 7 – The Light of the Sun and the Son

I was washing a frying pan recently after frying chicken a couple of weeks before Christmas and after cleaning it, I held it up against the sunlight coming from the window, and what do you know the pan had stains all over it even though I thoroughly scrubbed and clean it. At least I thought I did. What is it about the sunlight that brings about flaws in things or helps us see more clearly? Have you ever noticed when sunlight hits a room that dust particles circulate where the sunlight comes into the house? Once again light shows what is clean and perhaps what is unclean.

So too does the Son of God reflect that which is clean or unclean. If we choose to follow Christ, we want to walk in the light that prevents from showing our flaws.

One of my favorite verses in the bible is 1st John 1:5-10 which says:

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

This is the unity we have with one another if we walk with Christ in the light. By walking in the light, “we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin”. How powerful is that? That’s unity!

We should truly ask for forgiveness of sins, forgive others for any sins committed against us, let the Holy Spirit guide us in our decisions, and love one another as we love ourselves. We show unity and the love of God most effectively when we pray and intercede for those who God puts in our lives as Jesus intercedes for us. More importantly we show the love of God and unity in the Holy Spirit when we pray for our government and for all men to be saved as Paul says in 1st Timothy 2:1-4.

Let the light of the Son shine on your life so that others can see the light and desire to come to know the Son for themselves. We never know how letting our “little light shine” will impact someone else’s situation.

A simple song of praise:
