Day 20 - The Beauty of Agreement

Writer's picture: Monica SimmonsMonica Simmons

How can two walk together unless they agree? (Amos 3:3)

We see mergers happening all around us. One example is the partnership between Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines. To ensure their collaboration succeeds, they’ve aligned their policies, pricing, and member benefits. These changes are noticeable to their customers, demonstrating the importance of agreement for progress.

Many times, in life, we find ourselves at a standstill because of a lack of agreement. This disunity can lead to confusion and stagnation. We see its effects in government shutdowns, businesses, organizations, families, and marriages. Yet we know this is not of God, for He is not the author of confusion but of peace (1 Corinthians 14:33).

What, then, is the solution? How do we move forward in unity?

The answer lies in aligning ourselves with the will of God. When we elevate Him above our personal desires, pride, and preferences, we create space for Him to direct our paths. As we yield to His guidance, we become vessels of unity. We hear His voice more clearly, and He shows us what to do, where to go, and how to act.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said, “The church is not a religious community of worshippers of Christ but is Christ Himself who has taken form among people.” When we embrace unity, we embody Christ to those around us, showing the world His love and reconciliation.

Consider the words of Psalm 133:1: “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” Unity is not just beneficial; it is beautiful and pleasing to God. Additionally, Ephesians 4:3 encourages us to “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” This requires intentionality, humility, and a commitment to peace.

Today, I encourage you to be the catalyst for unity and peace. Whether in your workplace, your family, or your community, allow God to work through you to bring harmony. When we walk in agreement with Him and with one another, we reflect His love and bring His peace to a divided world.

A Prayer for Unity:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for being a God of peace and not confusion. Help us to walk in unity with You and with those around us. Teach us to set aside our pride, desires, and preferences so that we may align ourselves with Your will. Fill us with humility, patience, and love as we seek to bring harmony to our homes, workplaces, and communities. May we reflect Your love and peace in all that we do, glorifying Your name and drawing others closer to You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
