Day 18 – Avoid the Weakness of the Flesh

Sometimes on the “Daniel Fast” we struggle with getting enough variety in our diets. We are creatures of habit and typically like what we like and usually gravitate toward certain foods over and over again on the fast. God has given us all kinds of fruits and vegetables that we have never tried. When we come to the end of the fast the focus on food can take center stage as we begin to think about the other foods we will get to enjoy again.

Push through those thoughts and focus on the Lord. When we struggle and try to have our way, we are not resting in the Lord. The psalmist wrote, “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him” (Psalm 37:7, NKJV).

Billy Graham once said, “True Christians are the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised that God the Father would send His Spirit to help us in all things. We must admit our weakness so that we can ask Him to take over. Standing with Christ means that we stand aside and let Him have His way in our hearts and minds.”

Paul wrote, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8:1, NKJV). Let your Spirit rule over your flesh and not vice versa.

Fill your Spirit with the spiritual food of God and turn your attention to Him when you begin to feel weak. The Lord says in 2nd Corinthians 12:9 “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” What an encouragement it is to know that God can carry us through any momentary weakness of the flesh.
