Day 16 - Keep the Faith
Many times, in life, it may seem like things will never change. This human perspective can cause us to become weary in well doing, experience depression, and doubt God. Fasting helps us to see through spiritual eyes. We are reminded that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. Satan cares less about our cars, jobs, health, and every other distraction we may have. All of his attacks are designed to pull us away from God by attacking our faith. The bible tells us without faith, it is impossible to please God.
In our human nature, we may find ourselves asking questions like “why would a good God let my relative die,” or “I pay tithes and offerings, why am I struggling financially?”
We have several examples in the bible of how faith was tested. I love how the Hebrew boys did not waiver in faith. They told the king, that God is able to save them. Just like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, we have to know without a doubt, that God can do exceedingly, abundantly, and above all that we can ask or think. He is able, but sometimes we are tricked into thinking he will withhold good things from us, even though the bible clearly tells us He doesn’t. Think of a child who is begging to sleep at a family member’s house who has a history of pedophilia. It is difficult to explain the reasoning for saying “no” to an innocent three-year-old child. How many of us had to tell a pre-teen that they couldn’t have a girlfriend or boyfriend? It was probably because they were simply not ready. I’m sure they thought we were the worse person in the world. If they pushed and fought back, there was probably a strain on the relationship. It would have been so much better if they would have trusted that we loved them and knew that we had their best interest at heart.
We are adults and it’s time to put away childish thinking! If God says no, it’s for a reason and we need to trust that He has a better plan for our lives. No one wants to be used for what they offer, and God is no different. He should be loved for who He is and not what he can do for us. Remember that things are not always what they seem, and our omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, and sovereign God knows what is best for us.
Be encouraged and know that all things are working for our good. We serve a God who will never leave us nor forsake us. Let’s keep the faith!
