Day 16 - Godly People in all Levels of Government

Christy Davis

Our nation over the most recent decade has experienced a shift from how it was established and its trajectory. But remember, Jesus rose with all power in his hands. And it’s established in the word that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is alive in those that believe in him. “And if the Spirit of Him Who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, [then] He Who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also restore to life your mortal bodies through His Spirit Who dwells in you.” (Romans 8:11)

I was reminded that although our external circumstances may be uncomfortable, Christ Himself has promised to be our source of undiminishing comfort: “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).

As Christians, we know that we have access to an unshakable hope. No matter what happens around us, we know that God is working in us, giving us the power and desire to do what pleases Him—even when it’s difficult or overwhelming. “May the God of your hope so fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound and be overflowing with hope.” Romans 15:13

When God created the heaven and earth, at each step he stopped to evaluate, called it good and moved forward. That would include the role of people in government. Everyone has a purpose that has been established for them.

Isaiah 9:7 - When we start to fret because of what it looks like let’s remember who God is. He is our Father. Our ever-present help in time of trouble. Our never-changing, almighty, powerful God who isn’t surprised by anything happening in the news, in our world, or on social media.

“DO NOT let your hearts be troubled. You believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me.” John 14:1

Prayer

Lord, even while we are posed in an uncomfortable government, allow prayer to be our first line of defense. The children of Israel were stuck in a place 40 years because of grumbling. Dear God, let our hearts not lead us to grumbling. Holy Spirit let us seek your face, pray for our government, and trust you God to allow your will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Lord, help us be selfless when conversing about officials that have different views. Allow us to continue to show honor and respect while you move on our behalf. According to your good and perfect will. God, we pray that the officials that are walking in purpose be granted wisdom and strength and learn to do right! Help them seek justice, relieve the oppressed, correct the oppressor, defend the fatherless, and plead for the widow.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
