Day 11 - Unity in Leadership

Philippians 2:1-2
Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
Tug of war is a sport in which two teams pull on the same rope in opposite directions. To win the game one team must pull in their direction until the other team falls or yields to their supremacy.
As children of God, we have a common enemy in Satan who plays tug of war with our emotions daily, as he seeks to disrupt the will of God for us individually and corporately. If you are in a leadership role in the Church, workforce or even your own home, make no mistake you are in a tug of war with the enemy, as he seeks to cause division among you. If he can get leadership distracted, it won’t be long until the entire congregation, workforce and your family is distracted, and God’s agenda is pushed to the side as we engage in egotistic tug of wars. The Bible is redundant in commanding us to love one another, to seek to grow the fruit of the spirit, and ultimately to realize that we are accountable to God for how we serve in His Kingdom. 1 Corinthians 13:13 says Now these three remain: faith, hope and love but the greatest of these is love.
In this scripture Paul is writing from a Roman prison to the Church at Philippi to encourage them to stand firm in their love for one another, their spiritual fellowship, affection, and mercy. The bible says in John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. The major role we have as God’s church in society is to disciple the world and develop in individuals a desire to know God through Jesus Christ personally.
As leaders we must understand that this purpose cannot be fulfilled if there are “tug of war teams” in our Churches, homes and on our jobs. God is depending on leaders to be on one accord and like-minded when it relates to the business of God. The ONLY way to be of one accord is to love one another as Christ has loved us. Disagreement is not a reason for a tug of war, it is reason to seek God in humility, as we remember that it is not about our agenda. The only agenda that matters is God’s and if we stay on his side of the rope – our victory is already won.
