REST

There is nothing like the rest we give our organs when we stop eating for a period of time. We all fast from food when we turn in for bed at night and hopefully many of us get at least 10 hours away from the daily food assault when we fall asleep each night and before our next meal. It is the best way to experience a deep sleep and possible REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep where we also experience vivid dreams. The beauty of a fast of more than the nightly break from food and an actual intentional fast, one that is experienced while awake for most of the fasting period, is that it truly gives our organs a chance to revitalize and bring more clarity of thought to our brains. As we get older our brains need all of the help we can give them.
The other and more important thing an intentional break from food does is that it allows us to rest in the Lord.
Psalm 34:8 says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”
Psalm 46:10 “He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
When is the last time you truly rested? We are all running around in our busyness. Fasting can bring about true peace in our heart, body, soul, and spirit.
Take the time to fast and pray and rest in the Lord and see that the Lord truly is good. Your mind, body, and the Holy Spirit of God will respond accordingly.
Be blessed,
Larry
